U.S. to Send Ukraine $700 million military aid Package, Including Advanced Missile Systems

The Biden administration on Tuesday revealed details of the latest $ 700 million security package it is sending to Ukraine, which includes missile systems with a longer range than those sent in previous packages.

This, according to "European Truth", reports CBS News with reference to administration officials.

The package is expected to be officially announced on Wednesday.

Highly mobile artillery missile systems (HIMARS) will provide Ukrainian troops with greater accuracy in striking Russian targets. Officials stressed that these newer systems will not be used to strike at targets within Russia.

Officials also said they would not provide Ukraine with long-range weapons, adding that Ukraine had assured the United States that it would not launch medium-range missiles into Russia.

The aid package also includes radar systems, more Javelin missiles, anti-tank weapons, helicopters, tactical vehicles and various types of ammunition.

The US decision to provide advanced missile systems reflects a balance between wanting to help Ukraine fight massive Russian artillery fire without providing weapons that could allow Ukraine to hit targets deep inside Russia and escalate war.

US President Joe Biden reportedly told the New York Times that the United States would provide Ukraine with more advanced missile systems and ammunition.
