Avalanche in Rocky Mountain National Park, one killed and two injured

: In an unfortunate accident on Sunday morning, one climber died and two others got injured after a rockfall and avalanche happened on Mount Meeker in Colorado's Rocky Mountain National Park. The accident has been reported by the park authorities.

Three climbers are said to be involved in the accident as per a new release. Out of these three climbers, two were males and one was female.

Rocky Mountain National Park Search and Rescue team members were able to locate and rescue one of the male climbers with the help of the Colorado National Guard. Luckily, the female climber suffered minor injuries and was given basic treatment.

The injured male climber was immediately flown to the Medical Center of the Rockies by medevac. He is being given the necessary treatment here.

Authorities said that the rescue team continued its search for the third climber who went missing in the area where the rockfall and avalanche happened. Unfortunately, he could not be saved and his body was located on Sunday evening by the searchers who were probing avalanche debris.

The release states that due to the wintry weather conditions, the recovery operation is going to be delayed.

Climbers in other areas also witnessed the rockfall and the avalanche.

According to the data given by Colorado Avalanche Information Center, so far 17 people have lost their lives in avalanches in the United States this year. However, this number is significantly below compared to the last year when 37 people died because of the same reason.
