No survivors in General Mills factory plane crash in Covington

On Thursday evening, a small plane crashed in Covington. The location of the crash was near the General Mills plant. The General Mills plant is about a half-mile away from the airport’s north runway from where the plane earlier took off.

In the factory, no injuries were reported. But authorities were sure that passengers, if any, on the plane died as it was a fiery plane crash. Covington police Capt. Ken Malcom informed the reporters Thursday night about the crash.

The aircraft appeared to be a twin-engine Cessna propeller plane. It took off from the Covington Municipal Airport around 6:45 p.m. Witnesses said that they heard the plane’s engine sputter and while taking off it struggled to gain altitude. All of a sudden, the plane veered to the right side, and immediately went straight down and crashed.

The plane crashed in an isolated parking lot which is alongside Industrial Park Boulevard. The plane collided with four of the big rigs and an explosion happened on impact.

It was not immediately known how many passengers were on the plane.

Preliminary clean-ups on the scene are being done by the Police and local fire officials.

The National Transportation Safety Board and The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the reasons for the crash.
